Two years into photography, I remember getting asked to shoot a maternity session for the first time. I had always loved doing new types of sessions, but maternity had been one that I was happy to avoid! I wasn’t sure how to bring focus on the baby without it being weird. How many pictures of just the belly with the head cropped off is too many? Do I have the couples smile in every picture or look serious? Should they close their eyes or keep them open? Etc… All these questions filled my head before that session and I was so nervous!
All these years later I find that maternity sessions are now a favorite to shoot. Maybe I’m just getting more sentimental, or maybe it’s finding the beauty of a family about to experience something incredible and knowing the amazing journey they have ahead of them!
